our story
The inspiration
The idea for the GF service originates from the challenges faced by my parents in maintaining their cherished family home in Rutland.
Cutting the lawn was a regular chore but became such an effort (collapsing in his chair on completion) that a lighter, easier-to-use mower was purchased. This extended his ability to do the work for about a year until it was decided to employ gardeners – a succession of which proved unreliable, difficult, and who provided poor quality work.
To look after the required maintenance some “household name” professional services were employed (e.g., gas boiler servicing with an emergency call-out contract) however these over-promised and under-delivered, and on one occasion the house was left without heating in the middle of winter for over a week and on another the kitchen was flooded.
Further, the home technology and associated home automation became problematic, utility company (gas, electricity, water, internet) and local authority services management became a chore and the everyday noises the home made became a nagging worry. In addition, the maintenance that Dad enjoyed doing was neglected resulting in their home being poorly presented.
Ultimately, my parents decided to leave their family home for sheltered accommodation for which part of the financial burden is an annual £10,000 service charge. But more importantly, the decision caused the loss of the family home, the loss of our regular family gatherings there, and the loss of cherished furniture and items tied to happy memories.
The experiences of my parents highlighted the need for a regular, efficient, and comprehensive home and garden maintenance service that can ease the burden on homeowners. The GF service aims to address these frustrations, ensuring that you can maintain your home with ease, while preserving cherished memories, wellbeing and quality of life.
